2004 Chevrolet Camaro Owner's Manual
The Chevrolet Camaro Convertible is very reminiscent of its famous first-generation ancestor. Although, of course, the styling is more modern. The convertible has muscular proportions – swollen wheel arches, profiled sidewalls and wide ‘shoulders’ of the rear wings. It retains a classic silhouette with an extra-long bonnet and a sloping rear saloon.
Thanks to the designers and engineers rethinking the seam line on the fabric, extending the upholstery line below the waistline and using composites instead of aluminium, they were able to ensure that the removable top frame doesn’t stick through the trim. Thanks to this, the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible didn’t look any worse for wear. Moreover, the removable top is equipped with only one simple lock. Meanwhile, the car’s competitors are still equipped with two locks, which creates certain inconvenience for the driver when removing the top.
The engine options that can be fitted to the convertible and coupe are identical. The Chevrolet Camaro Convertible comes with a 312bhp V6 engine in the base version, which consumes 10 litres of fuel per 100km. The top version is powered by a 426bhp V8 engine. Both engines can be paired to a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual.
Chevrolet’s engineers had to work hard to keep the Camaro Convertible as manageable and stable as it is. Yet the lack of a roof tends to weaken the body structure. However, the American craftsmen found a way to solve this flaw. They put a strut between the front spring cups, reinforced the body in the gearbox mounting area, reinforced the central tunnel and front and rear V-shaped braces in the underbody. As a result, the company claims that the convertible’s roadholding is as close to that of a coupé as possible.
