Malibu is built on a new platform, thanks to which the sedan managed to lose 136 kg of weight (and this is with a slight increase in dimensions). In addition, the car has become safer and more technologically advanced – ten airbags (including side and knee airbags), a rear-view camera in the “base”, there is a warning about pedestrians in front of the car, adaptive cruise control, automatic braking and parking, marking tracking and monitoring of dead zones. And, according to Chevrolet, the Malibu sedan was the first car in the industry to use the Teen Driver system, which allows parents to control their children using a PIN code to limit speed and view trip history.
The base for the Chevrolet Malibu is a 1.5-liter Ecotec “tube four”, which produces 160 hp. With. power and 250 Nm of torque. This is also followed by a turbocharged, but two-liter unit with 250 “horses” of power and 350 Nm of torque. The first works with a 6-speed automatic transmission, the second – with an 8-speed “automatic” Hydra-Matic. A manual transmission for a sedan is not provided at all. As for fuel consumption, a smaller engine consumes 8.7 liters of gasoline in the city, a larger one – 10.6 liters per 100 km in the same urban cycle.
But that’s not all. The Americans have also prepared a hybrid modification of the Malibu with a combination of a 1.8-liter gasoline engine and two electric motors. The total output of such an installation is 182 liters. With. At speeds up to 88 km / h, the car can drive on electric traction, after which the internal combustion engine is switched on. The average fuel consumption of the hybrid version is 5.2 liters. To a large extent, this result can be achieved by braking energy recovery systems and exhaust gas recirculation.
