The basic Chevrolet Malibu comes with airbags, stabilisation system, audio system, dual-zone climate control and other equipment. Wheel rims can be selected from a variety of 17-, 18- and 19-inch wheels, while body colour is available in 10 colours. Options include optional airbags, lane-keeping system, a powerful multimedia-navigation system and a rear-view camera.

The American version of the Chevrolet Malibu is powered by a 2.5-liter gasoline engine (192 hp and 245 Nm) or one of several diesel units. The European specification also gets a 2.4-liter petrol engine with 167 hp and 225 Nm of torque, and a 2-liter diesel unit that produces 160 hp and 350 Nm. Both engines can be combined with manual 6-speed transmission or 6-band automatic transmission. The most economical is the diesel unit (5.3 litres of fuel per 100 km on the combined cycle), and the most dynamic is the gasoline, which accelerates the car up to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds.

The Chevrolet Malibu is produced at General Motors plants in Kansas and Michigan, as well as in South America and China.
