2015 Chevrolet Volt Owner's Manual
The Chevrolet Volt is a C-class 5-door hatchback with a hybrid powertrain. The second generation made its world premiere at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2015.
Chevrolet Volt of the second generation has received a new, more advanced hybrid power-unit Voltec with an internal combustion engine (102-horsepower 1.5-liter with direct injection, inlet and outlet variable valve timing and compression ratio 12.5: 1) and two electric motors. The main traction motor provides 151 hp, but 398 instead of 370 Nm of torque. The generator motor, in its turn, lost 14 horsepower and now provides 61 hp. As a result, the hatchback accelerates to 48 km/h in 2.6 seconds and to 97 km/h – in 8.4 seconds. Both are better than its predecessor. It’s also important that the car’s battery packs 18.4 kWh, which is almost comparable to pure electrics. Therefore, it’s not surprising that the range of the Volt can travel up to 85 km on electric power. However, payback for the significantly increased performance is half an hour longer (from 4 to 4.5) while charging the battery from a 220-volt network.
